Nepalese Society of Community Medicine (NESCOM) had established NESCOM-ORATION in order to felicitate distinguished scholars, academicians and experts, who have contributed to the
advancement of the society, public health and education sector. In continuation of the tradition begun in 2017, the society awards ORATION 2020 to Professor Jayaprakash Muliyil from Chennai, India.
Professor Jayaprakash Muliyil, educated as a Medical Doctor (Christian Medical College), MD in Preventive Medicine (Christian Medical College), Doctor of Public Health (Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD, USA), and Doctor of Medicine (Honoris Causa, University of Copenhagen, Denmark). He served as Vice Principal of the Christian Medical College, Vellore between 1998 and 2002. His contribution in curriculum planning and establishing institutional libraries has been fundamental to development of his institution.
He became Principal (academic head / dean) of the Christian Medical College, Vellore between 2002 and 2007. He is an illustrious epidemiologist, leprosy specialist, and exemplary teacher.
In his capacity as a Principal, Professor Muliyil has been instrumental in consolidating and expanding academic partnerships, research collaboration and capacity building of faculties, staff and students.
