Message from Chairman

Nepalese Society of Community Medicine (NESCOM) is a professional non-profit making organization of Nepalese MD graduates of community medicine established in 2016. This society has been established with a vision to ensure highest attainable health of people of Nepal by combined effort of proficient experts engaged in the field of community medicine.

Community medicine is a multidisciplinary specialty that blends both clinical practice and preventive care. It is developed as a specialist discipline of medicine which acts as a link between health services and clinical science. It not only compasses implementation of disease prevention programs, community health care needs, management of healthcare teams and advocacy for health promoting policies but also diagnose and treatment of diseases.

We all are aware of Alma Ata of World Health Organization which has set out the principle of Primary Health Care to achieve Health for All. I believe the practice of Community involves community-oriented primary care approach that promotes teamwork and linkages with the community vary from place to place and within a country depending on different health institutions.Specialist of Community Medicine cater health care services in areas which include provision of comprehensive primary health care to the entire community through the health center, clinic, or dispensary including the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses for children, adults and elderly, preventive checkups, routine maternity and newborn care, immunizations, certain minor surgeries, and mental health care in consultation with other specialists when needed. Over the years, community medicine departments have foreseen such activities and have developed their undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programs in a variety of ways.
Community Medicine although being included as a major in medical curriculum has not been included in the government (LOK SEWA AYOG). We as a society are striving hard to make the society visible in the wider circle of national and international platforms. The society has been actively involved in activities of the government ranging from policy discussion, research, collaborations to name a few.

Dear Friends,

It is my assurance, NESCOM being an important stakeholder in Health care services, Medical Education and Public Health/Community Medicine will stay dedicated to the promotion of public health by bringing its members’ expertise to the development of health policies, an advocate for Medical education, Health Research, Health care and Health Programs and providing a forum for the regular exchange of views & information. NESCOM has also contributed immensely towards Government through their technical support by capacity building in epidemiological and health system research activities and it is my conviction that we will one day get recognition to serve the Government in an individual level as a Community Medicine consultant though till now we are providing service in all areas of medical field from preventive, promotive and basic curative services for the people.
