Nepalese Society of Community Medicine (NESCOM) is a formally registered “not for profit” professional society of graduates in Community Medicine established in 2015 with the vision to ensure the highest attainable health of the people of Nepal. It is a network of over 200 members who are actively engaged in academics, research, and development projects in Nepal and abroad. Society’s major mission statement is advocacy, research, dialogue, and public health action to ensure better population health.
NESCOM plays a vital role in public health capacity building, epidemic preparedness, and community health initiatives in Nepal. Its key contributions include:
- Training government health professionals in Emergency Prevention Preparedness and Response (EPPR), Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies (HOPE), and Case Investigation and Contact Tracing (CICT).
- Outbreak response and community health outreach programs in collaboration with the government and development agencies.
- Research, policy discussions, and academic initiatives, including bi-monthly CPD webinars accredited by the Nepal Medical Council.
- National-level conferences in 2018, 2020,2022 and a virtual conference in 2021, engaging dignitaries from the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), WHO, World Bank, UNICEF, Save the Children, NHRC, and other stakeholders.
